A Sign in Space, Fall 2025
This book design reinterprets A Sign in Space by Italo Calvino through the idea of punctuation as visual "signs." Rather than serving a purely grammatical role, punctuation marks are amplified through scale and weight and become the primary drivers of layout, spacing, and rhythm across the page. These marks dictate how text is positioned and how the narrative unfolds visually. Drawing from the playful, abstract personality of Qfwfq and the story's cosmic humor, the design embraces experimentation and movement, transforming punctuation into a system that shapes both reading pace and spatial experience.
